Your Inner Task-Master

Some of us got the message early in life that we’re only as good as what we produce, fix, or accomplish. ⁣

If you had an anxious parent, it’s likely that this message was strong, even if never directly expressed. When we have an inner task-master running the show, it can be tough to take any pleasure from life, even those moments meant to be joyful. ⁣

Fear and anxiety can swell if we take it easy, as if the sky might fall while we were busy indulging our need for rest. Instead of examining this dynamic as another project, get to know the part of you that pushes for more. ⁣

What’s it worried about? It’s possible that the worries are a hold-over from another time in your life with problems that may have been resolved. ⁣

Whatever your circumstances, it might be freeing to simply bring a little curiosity to your inner task-master. ⁣

At the very least, a part of you that may have been feeling on their own carrying all the worries in the world, will sense they have a new friend.⁣
